Domaći su poveli 1:0 već posle pet minuta igre, posle diskutabilnog jedanesterca, preko Lee McCulloch-a.

Newcastle United je u novom dresu igrao samo nerešeno sa portugalskom ekipom Braga. Posle devedeset minuta igre rezultat je glasio 1:1.
Braga je povela u poslednjem minutu prvog poluvremena, posle penala kojeg je nepotrebno napravio Debuchy. Gol je postigao Alan, što je bilo dovoljno za 0:1, minut 45.

Poptuno očekivano Manchester City je sa pola gasa pobedio Newcastle United rezultatom 4:0. Da Građanima bude lakše, postarao se Steven Taylor direktnim crvenim kartonom u 45. minutu prvog poluvremena zbog namernog udaranja Aguer-a.
City dolazi u vođstvo već u 6. minutu, kada je David Silva glavom sa šest metara savladao Krul-a za 1:0.
U 22. minutu Sergio Aguero udarcem sa osamnaest metara dovodi svoj tim u vođstvo od 2:0.
