    12. septembar 2011. - 2. kolo

    Albano Benjamin Bizzarri [Lazio]
A fabulous debut for the Argentine as he superbly denied Milan a comeback win. Foiling Aquilani, he also blocked Cassano several times before bravely saving at the feet of Ibra then pushing a Boateng stinger round the post. Commanding.

    Stephan Lichtsteiner [Juventus]
Never stopped running and menaced every time he ran at the visitors’ defence. The new boy was in exactly the right place to exploit Pirlo’s perfect pass to slip round Mirante for the opener. Stunning.

    Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli]
Another top performance and assisted Lavezzi’s goal with a superb throw in. Caused problems with his strong running before scoring himself by being perfectly placed to slide the ball home. Imposing.

    Dusan Basta [Udinese]
The Serbian defender gelled with Torje immediately and scored within two minutes of the kick-off. Always pressing up field, he had also a massive hand in Toto’s goal and impressed all-round. Stupefying.

    Simone Pepe [Juventus]

Dominated down the right flank but never forgot his defensive duties. Almost scored but his shot was blocked at the last moment. Yet minutes later there was no stopping his angled shot as it flew into the bottom corner. Unstoppable.

    Marek Hamsik [Napoli]
The Slovenian magician began controlling the game when he came on and inspired the visitors to push on and win. Set up Campagnaro’s goal with a clever pass then scored himself with an absolute 20 yard stonker. Inevitable.

    Andrea Pirlo [Juventus]
Man of the Match, no doubt, and fit into the team system like he belonged. Showed all the elegant technique he is renowned for and set up both Lichtsteiner and Marchisio while simply oozing grace with every move. Inexorable.

    Daniele Conti [Cagliari]
The former Roma player blunted any danger in midfield continually testing the hosts at every turn. He was eventually rewarded for his determination with a well taken goal after exploiting a mistake by Jose Angel. Menacing.

    Fabrizio Miccoli [Palermo]

Led by example and severely tested Inter’s defence throughout. Scored after magnificently controlling Baretto’s pass before slotting the ball past Cesar. Also set up Hernandez prior to hitting his second from a 25 yard free kick. Relentless.

    Miroslav Klose [Lazio]
Scored within 12 minutes on his debut with a cracking shot from 10 yards out. Worked well with Cisse and his physical approach was generally too much for Nesta and the home defence. Classy.

    Antonio Cassano [Milan]
Absolutely dazzling and thoroughly deserved his Man of the Match status. His superb ball set up Ibra with an easy tap-in before scoring himself with a smart header from a corner. Astounding.

    Julio Cesar [Inter]

Although the rest of the side may have crossed the Rubicon, the imperial ‘keeper kept out the Roman army with impressive saves from Borini, Totti and Osvaldo twice, despite a very greasy surface. Imposing.

    Jean Guillermo Cuadrado [Lecce]
An utterly confident performance from the pacey Colombian, who contained the Bologna forwards with consummate ease. He had a massive hand in both goals and dominated the right flank with his vision and positioning. Intelligent.

    Danilo [Udinese]
Tough and uncompromising in the tackle, he led the back line like he had been in bianconero his entire career. The normally quicksilver Gilardino never got a look in and was seemingly overwhelmed by the Brazilian. Unyielding.

    Salvatore Aronica [Napoli]
The gritty Sicilian was determined to let no-one pass and Pato was especially shackled by the veteran defender. He also got under the skin of several other Milan players who were openly frustrated by his ferocious tackling. Dogged.

    Mauricio Isla [Udinese]
The Chilean was a danger throughout the game with his control and crosses from the right. Tortured Gamberini and Kharja, then scored with a powerful angled shot that almost broke Boruc’s hand on its way in. Persistent.

    Daniele De Rossi [Roma]
Showed why he was desperately wanted by Roberto Mancini with his non-stop prompting and pushing. Whether starting an attack or closing down the opposition, he was colossal, especially when blocking a dangerous Nagatomo raid. Ubiquitous.

    Andrea Cossu [Cagliari]
Directing the play just behind Ribiero and Nene with his darting and intelligent runs, the captain caused complete chaos in the Novara defence. Cool and commanding, he was at the heart of every attack. Untouchable.

    Miguel Veloso [Genoa]
Refused to give an inch and continually took the fight to the hosts. He worked well with Palacio and almost scored with a ferocious strike as well as crucially facing down Cisse’s powerful header. Determined.

    Edinson Cavani [Napoli]
El Matador was in God-like form as he scored his fifth Vesuviani hat-trick. His first was half-volleyed through Abbiati’s legs. His second flew unstoppably into the top corner while his third, a left-footed volley, exploited Nesta’s mistake. Omnipresent.

    Rodrigo Palacio [Genoa]
Almost scored straight away before earning his side a surprise victory with a casually flipped equaliser past Marchetti and an assist for Kucka. Went close again only for Marchetti to block at the last moment. Exceptional.

    Antonio Di Natale [Udinese]
Scored with an utterly cool penalty before going on to worry the Viola’s defence until the last minute. Always looking for a second goal, he had several attempts either foiled by Boruc or narrowly off target. Unique.

    23. septembar 2011. - 4. kolo

    Samir Handanovic [Udinese]
Helped win the point with several world-class saves including stops from Cassano and Nocerino. When his outstanding skills weren’t enough, his luck and the post came to the rescue, but could do nothing about the goal. Massive.

    Mehdi Benatia [Udinese]
The classy Moroccan defender continually frustrated any movement from Cassano and Aquilani with urbane ease. Also set up several attacks and almost scored himself late on with a powerful header. Marshalling.

    Maurizio Domizzi [Udinese]
Dominated in the air and shackled Cassano plus anyone else who dared try to beat the Bianconeri’s offside trap. His robust approach made sure he came off best in any physical challenges. Menacing.

    Thiago Silva [Milan]
Marshalled his defence imperiously and kept the Udinese forward line quiet, especially the normally boisterous Di Natale. Blended seamlessly with Nesta and the pair between them shepherded any danger away with the minimum of fuss. Matchless.

    Giuseppe Gemiti [Novara]
The mechanics of mere spending power were never more significant than when comparing these two sides. The left back typified the work ethic of his whole team, while the visitors left more carelessly drawn blood on the managerial floor. Masterful.

    Marco Rigoni [Novara]
The 31-year-old midfielder scored twice in a superb all round performance. His first from a well-taken penalty, his second saw him perfectly placed to slot home a rebound past Julio Cesar from six yards out. Magnificent.

    Cristobal Jorquera [Genoa]
The Chilean ace playing just behind the front two was at the centre of all that was good with Genoa’s play. Has already formed a great partnership with Palacio and had a hand in both his goals. Majestic.

    Juan Zuniga [Napoli]
Had to work double hard due to Fideleff’s culpability, but still managed to get down the line to put in several dangerous crosses. Kept tight control of Bradley while his close marking forced Thereau into being subbed. Magisterial.

    German Denis [Atalanta]
Like his team, the Tank has really hit form and scored in each half. His penalty Julio Sergio the wrong way, while he tucked away the second with a remarkable scissor kick. Monumental.

    Rodrigo Palacio [Genoa] 2
Led the Grifone’s charge superbly and scored twice by being well-placed to take advantage of slack goalkeeping, yet Andujar did deny him twice more with fantastic saves. He also made Constant’s goal with a clever chip. Magical.

    Riccardo Meggiorini [Novara]
The former Inter striker smacked home the opener after twice going close, one of them with a spectacular bicycle kick. A pain in the Inter communal backside throughout and could have scored again late on. Motivated.

    Nicola Ravaglia [Cesena]
Couldn't do much about Clarence Seedorf's strike but did limit Milan to one goal. Saved two dangerous Antonio Cassano strikes, stopped an almost certain goal from Stephan El Shaarawy and his handling, particularly at corners, was superb. Sedulous.

    Juan Zuniga [Napoli] 2
The Colombian was again outstanding, taking the game to Fiorentina at every opportunity. Devastatingly effective down the right, the wing-back was everywhere, regularly passing his man and providing superb crosses. Shame no-one else was on his level. Splendid.

    Lucio [Inter]
A new Coach, a new Lucio. Against Bologna there was a return to the Brazilian tough guy of old. Back to his blocking best, Lucio led the line, pushed his midfield forward and topped it off with a fine headed goal. Solid.

    Alessandro Gamberini [Fiorentina]
Commanded the defence and closed down any attacks that came through the centre. One of the few defenders to have annulled Edinson Cavani this season, he kept the Napoli front-line quiet throughout. Sophisticated.

    Pablo Armero [Udinese]
Had the left side of the pitch under his control against Cagliari and launched several attacks down that flank. Sadly for him though, his running and crosses were wasted as his teammates failed to match his awareness. Sublime.

    Ezequiel Schelotto [Atalanta]
Superb performance and bossed the right flank against Novara with his menacing runs and dribbles. Got into a great position to head home the opener and would have scored twice if not for the goalkeeper and the post. Scintillating.

    Daniele De Rossi [Roma] 2
Once again the main man, setting up several attacks from just in front of his back four. Always alert to danger, De Rossi snuffed out any assaults on the Giallorossi defence before they were able develop. Stupendous.

    Esteban Cambiasso [Inter]
Never stopped prompting his teammates in midfield and had a big hand in the opening goal. Found himself in the opposition area several times but never neglected the defensive side of his game either. Spectacular.

    Clarence Seedorf [Milan]
Man of the Match and scored the decider against Cesena with a well-struck right footer that flew into the top corner from outside the area. The veteran also showed some of the youngsters up with his non-stop running. Sapiential.

    Giampaolo Pazzini [Inter]
Could not be stopped and after narrowly failing to connect with a header, he hit home a powerful strike that despite Jean-Francois Gillet reaching it, flew into the net. Always alert to another chance. Superb.

    Rodrigo Palacio [Genoa] 3
Built on his relationship with Jorquera, who supplied the perfect through-ball for the Argentinian to slot an angled strike past Stefano Sorrentino. Had several more attempts before being rashly taken off after Dario Dainelli's expulsion. Salutary.

    3. oktobar 2011. - 6. kolo

    Antonio Mirante [Parma]
Shut out Rodrigo Palacio until Serie A’s top scorer struck with a last minute penalty. Won the game with two blinding saves, first from Jorquera’s Exocet then his lightning reactions foiled Constant for the second. Dependable.

    Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli] 2
Another top performance saw him set the pattern early when he crucially blocked a Pazzini strike. Coolly assured throughout, he opened the scoring with Inzaghi-like opportunism after slamming in the rebound from Hamsik’s penalty. Demanding.

    Mehdi Benatia [Udinese] 2
The Moroccan international was a powerhouse, limiting the Bologna forwards to literally scraps. Also found time and space to get up field, scoring the opener after finding space from a corner. Domineering.

    Paolo Cannavaro [Napoli]
Was the complete central defender – blocking, anticipating and sweeping up any danger. As always performs with an insistent belief in his indestructibility. If he was a waiter he would be serving filet mignon. Decisive.

    Juan Zuniga [Napoli] 3
Was to the left flank what Campagnaro was to the right and negated the normally great Maicon with ease. Had a chance to score but failed in what was his only mistake. Diligent.

    Cristian Maggio [Napoli]
Won the penalty, dictated the game and linked up well with the excellent Inler. His burst of pace burnt Nagatomo and with a wonderfully single-minded purpose, robbed him of the ball before looping it over Cesar to score. Determined.

    Daniele De Rossi [Roma] 3
Cannot be stopped and showing some of his best ever form. Marshals the midfield from his key role in front of the defence and his perfect pass helped Krkic score the opener. Distinguished.

    Claudio Marchiso [Juventus]
Struck up a superb relationship with the indomitable Pirlo and had several shots on goal before exploiting Bonera’s mistake to score the opener. His second came from a long range screamer that Abbiati failed to control. Daring.

    Sebastian Giovinco [Parma]
The Atomic Ant scurried everywhere, could not be controlled and was a complete nuisance as well as scoring twice. Capped off a fine game by setting up Morrone’s goal with a clever header. Dynamic.

    Miroslav Klose [Lazio] 2
Seemed to be everywhere and laid on the first goal with his accurate pass to Hernanes. Almost scored another two, just minutes before nodding home the winner from close range. Dangerous.

    Pablo Osvaldo [Roma]
A constant menace, continually pushing forward and getting on the end of some excellent balls from midfield. Scored the second goal by slotting it past Consigli with his right foot, following some wonderful ball control. Delightful.

    17. oktobar 2011. - 7. kolo

    Massimiliano Benassi [Lecce]
Lecce can thank their reserve ‘keeper for several classy saves and some lucky blocks that helped them keep a clean sheet in the first half. Later he stopped Jankovic’s and Veluso’s powerful free-kicks with his fingertips. Magnetic.

    Ignazio Abate [Milan]
Didn’t have much to do in defence for once so made some forceful forays down the right flank instead. Put in an excellent assist for Cassano and had his best game in a Milan shirt this season. Methodical.

    Nicola Legrottaglie [Catania]
Was a rock in the centre of defence with his perfect positioning and solid tackling. Kept Pazzini and Milito quiet all match and showed us what he is made of when perfectly blocking Milito on the by-line. Metronomic.

    Mehdi Benatia [Udinese] 3
Another top performance and stopped Atalanta scoring for the first time this season. His sheer determination was best shown by his crucial block on Denis early on and then by keeping the normally lively Argentine quiet for once. Muscular.

    Sergio Bernardo Almiron [Catania]
May have low follicular standards, but could not have hit the ball any sweeter to stun Inter with the equaliser. The beating heart of the Elefanti herd with his crisp passing. Mammothian.

    Robinho [Milan]
The Brazilian filled the problem position behind the front two perfectly and could have scored a hat-trick but for Tzorvas. Yet eventually beat him with a scorcher from outside the area. Mesmerizing.

    Hernanes [Lazio]
A raging torrent through the midfield with his control and serpentine movement. Forced the penalty, then converted it with style following it up with some clever passing and positioning, also pushed Stekelenburg into a great save. Manipulative.

    Antonio Nocerino [Milan]
Never stopped running and kept Palermo’s right flank totally occupied. His constant pushing saw him in the ideal place to knock home Aquilani’s header for the opener and was always free to receive the ball. Masterful.

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic [Milan]
Didn’t score but did almost everything else. The slippery Swede had a massive hand in Nocerino’s goal, then played the perfect through ball for Robinho’s strike and was a handful for the Palermo defenders. Matchless.

    Miroslav Klose [Lazio] 3
Was a constant thorn in Roma’s side and had several strikes on goal, with one header bouncing off the cross bar. In the final seconds cleverly beat the offside trap to coolly strike home the winner. Magnificent.

    Gonzalo Bergessio [Catania]
Led the fight-back against Inter with some devastating passing and it was his pacey run on the counter-attack that set up Almiron for the equaliser. A few minutes later his pace also earned the winning penalty. Meritorious.

    Maarten Stekelenburg [Roma]
Palermo could play eight days a week against the Flying Dutchman and still not score. Deflections, blocks and scintillating saves, he made them all, including stopping super efforts from Zahavi twice, Hernandez and Miccoli. Formidable.

    Maicon [Inter]
The Brazilian was back to his very best controlling and guarding the right flank like an athletic Cyclops with four sets of eyes. Smothered the troublesome Hetemaj and was the long-awaited revolution in the Nerazzurri defence. Forceful.

    Claudio Terzi [Siena]
Magnificent at the back and came down like Maxwell’s silver hammer on any danger through the middle. He never gave an inch until he received a yellow card, but his intelligent positioning easily overcame that millstone. Fearsome.

    Pablo Armero [Udinese] 2
There was something in the way he moved that simply baffled Novara. Apart from almost scoring with one long-range effort and his superb defensive work, he also set up Di Natale’s first with awesome skill. Feisty.

    Gennaro Delvecchio [Catania]
Carried the weight in midfield and battled for every ball while pushing and prompting throughout. His intelligent runs and crosses were rewarded when he was the first to his own rebound to slot home the equaliser. Fearless.

    Andrea Pirlo [Juventus] 2
Difficult to find new superlatives for the former Milan hero, but absolutely sublime comes somewhere near it. Had a big hand in the first and his ticket to ride dummy allowed Matri to score again. Futuristic.

    Kevin Prince Boateng [Milan]
With a little help from his friends, the Ghanaian completely turned the game around as a second half substitute. Started brilliantly and got even better, devastating Lecce with a fabulous hat-trick within 18 minutes. Fascinating.

    Alexander Merkel [Genoa]
Was here, there and everywhere and it was his fabulous pin-point cross from the left that saw Rossi head home the equaliser. Always involved in the action and twice hit the woodwork. Fantastic.

    Maximiliano Moralez [Atalanta]
Led the Parma defenders on a magical mystery tour and scored twice. His first from a close range punt, while his second came from a panther-like pounce on a rebound from six yards out. Fluid.

    Alessandro Matri [Juventus]
The former Cagliari striker made Genoa’s central defenders Dainelli and Moretti look like nowhere men. Could perhaps have scored another two either side of his well-taken brace but for some excellent ‘keeping from Frey. Fabulous.

    Stevan Jovetic [Fiorentina]
Getting better all the time and hit the opener with a fabulous right-footer from outside the area. Continually caused problems and restored the Viola’s advantage by banging in a murderous curler from 15 yards out. Flawless.

    Morgan De Sanctis [Napoli]
Kept out the former League leaders and made three absolutely crucial saves, including Asamoah’s belting volley. With Lavezzi up front pulling out all the stops, the Azzurri guardian was his defensive equivalent. Defiant.

    Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli] 3
Another top notch performance and linked very well with Maggio. When his teammate ventured up field he covered and closed down any hint of danger before it had time to develop. Dazzling.

    Leonardo Bonucci [Juventus]
Apart from putting in a strong defensive shift the former Bari defender showed all the reaction of a goal poacher as he slotted home Vidal’s rebound. Was especially alert to block Behrami late on. Daring.

    Daniele Capelli [Atalanta]
Did his homework on Inter’s forward line and kept Milito and Zarate relatively quiet. He also never let Pazzini build up any steam and led the back line with admirable determination. Destroyer.

    Federico Peluso [Atalanta]
Never gave a centimetre and played some glorious balls out of defence, while setting up several attacks throughout the game. Soon got into his rhythm and even got up field on several occasions to cause problems. Diligent.

    Christian Maggio [Napoli] 2
Was alert to every nuance of his teammates and soon won his right flank battle with Armero. Demolished the Udinese defence with impudent ease and at his very best to authoritatively head home Dzemaili’s free-kick. Decisive.

    Antonio Candreva [Cesena]
The on-loan Udinese midfielder imposed his character in midfield, inspiring the Seahorses with his all-out effort. Took over penalty duties in unclear circumstances, but never let his Coach down as he delicately chipped the ball over Agazzi.

    Antonio Nocerino [Milan] 2
Looked a winner from the start and showed it by scoring a fabulous hat-trick. Beating Obiarah and Mirante for his first, the second came minutes later with a thunderbolt left footer, then he capped a fabulous performance with a brilliant header. Devastating.

    Alessandro Matri [Juventus] 2
Put in another menacing performance and scored again to make it three in two games. Gelled well with Pepe and could possibly have scored several more if not for Boruc and Gamberini’s alertness. Distinctive.

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic [Milan] 2
Showed his strength on and off the ball with some devastating movement that had Feltscher pulling out his locks with frustration. Also set up Nocerino’s first goal before foiling the young Venezuelan again to score the third. Dynamic.

    Ezequiel Lavezzi [Napoli]
El Pocho’s goal came from a tremendous right-footed volley exquisitely supplied by Cavani after a give and go from the Argentine. His sublime involvement was felt in almost every Napoli attack, via his continual pressing, prompting and pushing. Divine.

    Jean-François Gillet [Bologna]
Couldn’t do much about Denis’ strike, but did limit Atalanta to just that one goal. Saved Bologna on several occasions in the second half when the visitors stepped up the pressure but his handling saved the day. Sedulous.

    Douglas Maicon [Inter] 2
If only Inter had 11 of him consistently running into space and winning possession. Eventually rewarded for his efforts with a stunning strike that snuck under the bar from a tight angle. Sophisticated.

    Giuseppe Bellusci [Catania]
Hard to pick the host’s best defender as they all played out of their skins, but the 22-year-old was the central pillar of a steely resistance. Made mincemeat of Cavani and Lavezzi’s reputations as men of menace. Splendid.

    Alessandro Nesta [Milan]
At the top of his game and brought years of experience into 90 minutes of pre-eminence. Also made crucial interceptions on Pizarro and Bojan and, oh yes, he also scored a brilliant headed goal from Robinho’s corner. Sublime.

    Nicola Legrottaglie [Catania] 2
Put a cap on the normally effervescent Zuniga and had the left hand side of the pitch under his control. Also formed an amazing partnership in a five man defensive wall with Bellusci and Spolli. Solid.

    Alberto Aquilani [Milan]
His former club’s nemesis and never stopped prompting his colleagues from midfield while setting up several attacks. Had a massive hand in both Ibra’s goals and almost scored himself in between. Stupendous.

    Gaston Ramirez [Bologna]
Bologna’s main man just behind the front two earned the penalty just before half-time after a fabulous dribble. Moments into the second half he sped into the box to casually knock the ball past the onrushing Consigli. Scintillating.

    Senad Lulic [Lazio]
Gave Agazzi no chance for the opener and although Cagliari had more territorial advantage, the Bosnian refused to allow them to exploit it. Gave no quarter and had a massive involvement in the victory from the left. Sapiential.

    Claudio Marchisio [Juventus] 2
Continued his fine performances with a masterful performance in midfield against Inter. While Pirlo and Vidal made mistakes, Marchisio was class personified – as was that cool strike which sealed the win. Seminal.

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic [Milan] 3
Man of the Match and led the line with imperious ease, scoring two magnificent headers. With Aquilani providing both assists the pair were unstoppable with the first goal particularly outstanding as Ibra out-jumped everyone to beat Stekelenburg. Superb.

    Gonzalo Bergessio [Catania] 2
Put the Napoli defence to shame with his running and total determination to win every tackle. Was totally alert to head home Ricchiuti’s cross, banging it in from point blank range. Salutary.

    Michael Agazzi [Cagliari]
The former Orobici youngster was severely tested by Denis and perhaps should have stopped the only goal. Yet, generally by hook or crook, he kept one of Italy’s hottest hit men down to just one goal. Providential.

    Andre Dias [Lazio]
Looks like the defender of old. Tough and uncompromising in the tackle, he closed down any danger with the utmost simplicity and precision, while always looking to start a counter-attack, if possible. Obdurate.

    Matias Silvestre [Palermo]

Has had harder games but did all that was needed. He topped off a solid performance by losing his marker, leaping like a maggot fried in hot grease, and heading home past Gillet at the back post. Aware.

    Moris Carrozzieri [Lecce]
Like sand he got in everywhere with a domineering and determined rock-like performance. Apart from pulling off a crucial goal-line clearance, he was the inspiration behind the visitors keeping their third clean sheet on their travels. Persistent.

    Daniele Capelli [Atalanta] 2
Although the hosts had the first half, Cagliari forced the pace in the second and the captain’s crucial interventions helped keep a clean sheet. Always precise in the tackle, he was rarely caught out. Punctual.

    Luca Rigoni [Chievo]
Up against Jovetic he needed all his experience. Got under the skin of several Viola players with his fierce tackling, but did his job and scored the only goal from point blank range. Dogged.

    Josip Ilicic [Palermo]
Completely overran Bologna and never stopped demanding the ball. Had a massive hand in the first goal and his thunderbolt shot was just tipped over before he scored the final goal after another fabulous run. Exceptional.

    Fernando Gago [Roma]
Sped through the Novara defence like a leopard on a kill and, with De Rossi, completely controlled the midfield. Moved into an even higher gear in the second half and sent over the corner for Osvaldo’s goal. Untouchable.

    Robinho [Milan] 2
Made the Catania defence as nervous as a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs, earning Ibra’s penalty and slotting home past Andujar for the second. Confusion about the third but the Brazilian’s feline magic surely forced Lodi’s own goal. Untouchable.

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic [Milan] 4
The Swede converted his 15th Serie A penalty and 99th League goal with substantial ease, before setting up Robinho’s goal with a sublime pass. Was always a menace and at times absolutely unstoppable. Ubiquitous.

    German Denis [Atalanta] 2
Always pushing forward, but foiled on several occasions by a combination of wood and Agazzi. Finally beat the ‘keeper with an excellent finish after losing his marker, turning and lobbing Agazzi for the winner. Omnipresent.

    Federico Marchetti [Lazio]

With the Curva B at his back he showed nerves of steel and, although troubled in the first 45 minutes, it was his second half saves from Pandev, Cavani and then Lavezzi that were absolutely world-class. Dependable.

    Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli] 4

Another top performance from the Argentine, who was always there to block any advances down Lazio's left and also set off several attacks himself. Almost scored early on with a header from Lavezzi's cross. Dynamic.

    Thiago Silva [Milan] 2

Led the back line with his usual aplomb and power. And like his partner Nesta he makes defending look much easier than it is. Made several important tackles, especially a crucial one early in the game on Gilardino. Domineering.

    Giorgio Chiellini [Juventus]

Seems to be settling in at left-back and had his most comfortable game there this season. Always alert defensively, but also made incursions into the Palermo area and set up Pepe's goal with a superb cross. Diligent.

    Ricardo Gabriel Alvarez [Inter]

Came on as a sub at half-time and picked up the pace immediately, offering menace and meanness in equal quantities. Popped up everywhere and had a massive hand in both goals. Determined.

    Claudio Marchisio [Juventus] 3

An extremely lively performance from the 25-year-old product of the Old Lady's nursery. Set up attacks, won the ball back and then capped a Man of the Match display with a pearl of a goal from the right. Daring.

    Marco Parolo [Cesena]

Twice before the left-sided central midfielder had severely tested Gillet with two power shots and it was third time lucky as his Exocet screamed into the top corner from over 20 yards out. Dynamic.

    Rodrigo Taddei [Roma]

Menaced Lecce throughout with his constant runs and dangerous crosses into the area. His persistence finally paid off as he set up Pjanic to slot home the opener. Carried on causing mayhem and almost scored himself. Dogged.

    Jonathan Biabiany [Parma]

Parma's best player caused chaos in the Udinese defence with his speed and intelligent play down the right. Pushed from the first minute and scored the opener from a few yards with a fine header. Distinguished.

    German Denis [Atalanta] 3

The former Napoli striker can't stop scoring and added two more to his tally. His first saw him earn and then convert a penalty, while he out-jumped the home defence to nod home his ninth goal of the season. Dangerous.

    Ezequiel Lavezzi [Napoli] 2

Another all-out intelligent display from Pocho who forced at least three stunning saves from Marchetti. Also set up several teammates with goalscoring opportunities, but they failed to match his awareness. Delightful.

    Massimiliano Benassi [Lecce] 2

A terrific performance and perfectly positioned three times to block the menacing Delvecchio. Also pushed away Bergessio's blaster before closing down Gomez nine yards off his line. Finally beaten by a magical, curved ball from Barrientos. Imposing.

    Stephan Lichtsteiner [Juventus]
    2

The former Lazio defender dominated down the right, pushing up, putting in crosses and generally keeping the Biancocelesti defence busy. Always alert to counter attacks and made a crucial sliding tackle on a dangerously positioned Hernanes. Determined.

    Steve Von Bergen [Cesena]

Led the line superbly and, alongside Comotto and Rossi, was as tight as a nun's corset, while helping the hosts keep their third home clean sheet. Silenced Genoa's leading scorer Palacio and refused to back out of any challenge. Solid.

    Nicola Legrottaglie [Catania] 3

Caused problems down the flank and never lost control of the ball and was rewarded with keeping a rare clean sheet. A solid performance matched by his teammates who thoroughly deserved the win. Intelligent.

    Simone Pepe [Juventus] 2

Always willing to run himself into the ground and his never-say die attitude makes up for his somewhat periodically limited skills. However, was sharp as a butcher's knife when controlling Matri's perfect pass to beat Marchetti. Integral.

    Antonio Nocerino [Milan] 3

Another top-notch display from the all-action Italian international, whose controlled aggression saw him boss the midfield. His understanding with Aquliani gets stronger every game and he was always available to relieve any pressure. Dominant.

    Daniele Conti [Cagliari] 2

A real captain and shouldered the responsibility of taking the penalty that earned a credible draw. Always fighting for the ball and never gave an inch although he did play his part in the visitors' goal. Tireless.

    Marco Rigoni [Novara] 2

The experienced 31-year-old knew where, when and how to release the ball for the best effect. Topped off an utterly confident performance with an assist before rising above the visitors' defence to powerfully head home the winner. Persistent.

    German Denis [Atalanta] 4

The Tank steamrollered past his former teammates and caused real problems throughout. His fabulous technique saw him outwit a creaking defence as he drew out De Sanctis before scoring his 10th goal of the season. Exceptional.

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic [Milan] 5

Compellingly awesome, almost breaking the bar twice with a pair of thunderbolts, while in between scoring two utterly confident goals. His first a glorious chip over Sorrentino, his second a penalty that absolutely flew into the net. Unbelievable.

    Adrian Mutu [Cesena]

Always a menace but in the second half was super-charged. Twice severely tested Frey before eventually chipping him with the penalty. Ten minutes later he struck home an unstoppable right-footer into the top corner. Fabulous.

    Sebastien Frey [Genoa]

An intelligent performance and the only secure point in defence. Alert and twice blocked two almost certain goals by Nocerino, but a classy Ibra left him no chance with the penalty, as did his defence for the second. Steadfast.

    Mauricio Isla [Udinese] 2

The Chilean wing-back scored the winner from a lightning counter-attack with ruthless and cool efficiency. Played deeper than usual and constantly dominated Alvarez and Chivu to score his third of the season. Persistent.

    Guillermo Rodriguez [Cesena]

A resolute performance and had done his homework on the Juve forwards, forcing Matri and Vucinic to be subbed. Such was his versatility when goalkeeper Antonioli was red-carded he took over but couldn't stop Vidal's penalty. Unflagging.

    Alessandro Gamberini [Fiorentina] 2

A totally solid performance by the captain after his recent displays. Never gave the Roma forwards an inch and capped it all off with a well-headed goal, soaring above the defence like Socrates in his hey-day. Purposeful.

    Sebastian Giovinco [Parma] 2

Shone though the fog like a lighthouse and illuminated the game with his brilliance. Caused trouble throughout the game with only Benussi and the post stopping him scoring at least twice. Incandescent.

    Kevin-Prince Boateng [Milan] 2

Playing behind the front two he was inspiring. Made several dangerous runs and set up the winner with another as his perfectly executed pass left Nocerino with the simple task of slotting the ball home. Unstoppable.

    Antonio Nocerino [Milan] 4

Was completely involved and always menacing. Frey foiled him twice with wonder saves, while he also hit the post twice and should have had a penalty. Eventually rewarded with a goal. Intrinsic.

    Arturo Vidal [Juventus]

Played a massive hand in Marchisio's goal and was arguably Juve's most consistent player. Worked hard to set up several attacks and finally scored with a neatly struck but controversial penalty. Tenacious.

    Stevan Jovetic [Fiorentina] 2

Outstanding and menaced the Roma defence throughout, twisting this way and that like a young Giancarlo Antognoni. Had several superb attempts on goal, including a stinger palmed away by Stekelenburg. Earned a penalty and converted it. Totemic.

    Ezequiel Lavezzi [Napoli] 3

Pocho showed his full repertoire of tricks and perhaps should have scored another two. After opening the scoring, he set up Cavani for the fourth after once again dazzling the deluded Oddo. Inspiring.

    Edinson Cavani [Napoli] 2

The Matador was imperious and scored twice, the first a superbly controlled lob over goalkeeper Benassi from the in-form Pandev's perfect pass. The second saw him in exactly the right place to score from Pocho's pinpoint pass. Exhilarating.

    Nicola Ravaglia [Cesena] 2

One of the reasons that the visitors came away with the win, although pretty providential at times, he made several brilliant interventions. His reaction save from Silvestre's shot very early on was Buffon-like. Discriminating.

    Lucio [Inter] 2

Back with a bang and bottled Gilardino's menace for much of the match. With a little help from the Wall, he gave the Nerazzurri the solidity in defence they missed when he was out. Dominant.

    Nicola Legrottaglie [Catania] 4

The former Juve veteran finished his goal like a true bomber rising above the Atalanta defence to head home. Also made several crucial blocks particularly on Denis with a few minutes to go. Dramatic.

    Daniele De Rossi [Roma] 4

Played deeper than usual and relished the defensive job he was asked to do and also scored within five minutes. Seemed to be a natural and was just as commanding and powerful as usual. Defining.

    Daniele Portanova [Bologna]

Never allowed Ibra to get really going and led his defence with subtle ease and efficiency. Thanks to his control Bologna saw much more of the ball and easily had the territorial advantage. Daunting.

    Juan Guillermo Cuadrado [Lecce] 2

The Colombian wing-back worried Lazio with his speed and determination. Sent in several good balls while he was foiled by Marchetti's great save after a cracking shot. Direct.

    Dusan Basta [Udinese] 2

Never stopped running and got through a lot of work as Chievo threatened. Eventually it all paid off as he dived in where feet were flying to convert a corner with a diving header. Distinctive.

    Marco Rossi [Genoa]

The captain grabbed the rudder and saved the ship with his quicksilver reaction to goalkeeper Brkic's sloppiness. Before and after his crucial opener, his cool assurance inspired his teammates and he was undoubtedly man of the match. Decisive.

    Miroslav Klose [Lazio] 4

Absolutely lethal with two well-taken goals plus a superb assist. The veteran German's first came from a four-yard volley after Diakite's knock down, while his second saw him leap above two Lecce defenders to powerfully head home. Dignified.

    Adrian Mutu [Cesena] 2

The Romanian has a nose for the half-chance, sniffing out opportunities with his dribbling, dangerous free-kicks and general positioning from the off. Scored a well-deserved goal out jumping Acquah to nod home. Delightful.

    Marco Di Vaio [Bologna]

Looks back to the level he performed at last season. Always the supreme professional, he burned Milan's offside trap breaking from the half-way line before lobbing Amelia for his goal, also hit the post. Dazzling.

    Samir Ujkani [Novara]

Saved a whitewash with his powder-finger reactions to Del Piero and De Ceglie, also saved superbly from Giaccherini and Marchisio and, while a touch fortunate at times, he blocked and smothered everything else. Faultless for goals. Exalted.

    Juan [Roma]

The Brazilian showing real staying power returned to the side and comprehensively organised the defence, annulling the normally dangerous Cavani. Such was his superiority that he blocked the hosts' most potent power with ease. Empyreal.

    Gennaro Sardo [Chievo]

Apart from shoring up the defence, the sub added extra bite to the attack like a hurricane with a red flag warning. Also got into the perfect spot to slot home at the back post. Eminent.

    Paolo De Ceglie [Juventus]

There comes a time when the shadow defence has to step up to the plate and certainly the club's former youth star could not be faulted. Set up Pepe's goal and also had several attempts himself. Ethereal.

    Ezequiel Matias Schelotto [Atalanta] 2

Won't have done his chances of a transfer any harm with this top-class performance. Made Pasqual look like an old man, while his natty move to dust down two defenders was amazing before he set up Denis. Excellent.

    Antonio Nocerino [Milan] 5

Always willing to put in runs and, like four strong winds, if an opportunity arose he got into the area. Made some clever passes and scored a neat opener beating Brkic at the near post from 15 yards. Elegant.

    Cyril Thereau [Chievo]

The French striker could have scored a hat-trick and excelled at playing deeper as a trequartista. His ability to twist and turn with the ball left the opposition helpless. He also assisted the winner after scoring himself from 10 yards. Exciting.

    Daniele Galloppa [Parma]

No fog this week, but still the brightest of lamps and was always looking forward. Led the way back into the game from midfield and scored to equalise with an extra time Exocet. Enchanting.

    Simone Pepe [Juventus) 3

One of his best games this season. Always ready to give and take while being big time everywhere. Help set up Quagliarella's goal and scored himself early on at the back post for a simple slot in from De Ceglie's pass. Exquisite.

    German Denis [Atalanta] 5

The Tank rolled over and over the Viola defence as if it was the Maginot line. His heavy artillery blitzkrieged Boruc in goal with several howitzer strikes until he toe-poked home the ball from a few yards out. Elevated.

    Miroslav Klose [Lazio] 5

Forever young, the veteran goal machine led the line like the true pro he is. Always in the thick of the action he struck the second goal with such force it bounced off a defender past Handanovic. Enjoyable.
