                              IBEROSTAR FOUNDATION

We live in times of change with regards to the perception of disabilities.
Nowadays, society defends the diversity, the integration, and the inclusion in society of all citizens.

With this in mind, there is a need for new levels of understanding, and new attitudes towards disabilities with respect to the differences and equality in opportunities. The main challenge which we face is being able to provide disabled people with the same standards of education, leisure, and their personal development in general; that is to offer them: "Quality of Life".

Education, together with family life, is the first step for learning and growing, and therefore the main place where the values of solidarity, tolerance, and the acceptance of different individuals must be developed.
These values are vital when it comes to integrating children with special educational needs into ordinary classrooms.

The experience of the last twenty years in the development of initiatives for integrating students with special educational needs resulting from a disability, has helped to modify and better the focus of the education initiative.

In reality, it is necessary to raise the awareness of all students with respect to diversity and provide them with the necessary strategies that allow them to be active and critical agents, committed to their own development and that of their surroundings, this way dispelling the risk of exclusion and making it very clear that the right to equality amongst students is unquestionable.

Given the complexity of the integration process, the Iberostar Foundation is aware that it is necessary to have adecuate educational and professional resources which can provide support for educational practices at school centres in the spreading of the values of solidarity, tolerance, and acceptance as already mentioned.

From this comes "Let's Learn Together".

1,200 kids learn to be like Rafa Nadal with Iberostar Foundation

                              23 May 2007

PALMA.- 1,200 children have been learning how to be like Rafa Nadal with the Iberostar Foundation and the Manacor player's uncle and coach, Toni Nadal. As part of the 'Aprenem Junts' programme, Nadal gave a masterclass yesterday to ablebodied and handicapped children from Mallorcan centres and schools.

At the press conference, Toni said how grateful he was to be able to collaborate with encouraging integration and he explained to the children that Rafa was relaxing in Manacor and that he would take winning the Roland Garros tournament one step at a time, but with conviction.

Finally, to bring the event to a close, Toni Nadal addressed all the young people there and assured them that with willpower and dedication a new Rafa Nadal would emerge from among them in the next few years.

'Aprenem Junts', the Iberostar Foundation's programme for the social integration of handicapped children, in collaboration with the 'Sa Nostra' Foundation and the Mallorcan Institute for Social Services and Sports had organised yet another day of activities to show solidarity with the defence of values like acceptance, tolerance and empathy towards the handicapped

During the workshop, billed as "Play tennis with Toni Nadal", more than 1,200 children from various Special Education Centres and Infant, Primary and Secondary Schools on Mallorca, took part in a variety of fun sports activities accompanied by our Manacor champion's coach, who also gave tennis masterclasses to some of the children selected during the course of the morning.

MARCA SPENDS DAY BEFORE NIEMINEN MATCH WITH NADAL

                                24 hours with Nadal

By Joan Solsona, special correspondent in Melbourne

MARCA describes how Rafael Nadal spent the day before playing Jarkko Nieminen:

10:0010:15 Goes down to breakfast. His first meal of the day is fruit juice and toast. Then it is quickly back to his room before going to practise. He has booked a court for an early turn so he can have the afternoon free to go to the aquarium. He is a specialist in fish because he lives surrounded by them in Port Cristo (Manacor), where he anchors the boat he uses to go fishing. His speciality is rock fish, "I once caught 100", though during his last holidays on Formentera, he stuffed himself with rays, a species facing extinction in the area. With the exception of Shanghai, which he describes as a gridlock, he enjoys visiting the places the ATP tour takes him to. He has scary memories of one helicopter trip in the skies over Monte Carlo.

11:00 Waiting for Nadal at the door of Crown Towers Hotel is a KIA Sorento, a car that is familiar to him because he has a whole fleet of them back in Mallorca. The tennis player is the worldwide image of the Korean car company, which is also the main sponsor of the Australian Open. His own cars have 'tie break Rafael Nadal' written on the side of them, though. Nadal makes use of the short ride to play on a hand held consol: He never tires of competing.

11:15 Nadal practises with an Italian junior. He normally practises on court 16 (see below) but this time he has to go to court 4 because Roger Federer is on the former and will be followed there by Justine Henin. Both of them have matches later in the Rod Laver Arena. Rafa spends just short of an hour hitting and then has to leave because other players arrive to take his place. He is left wanting to practise a bit more.

[Solsona wrote in another article: 'Court 16 is his favourite court and the only one apart from centre court on which he usually practises. Its location right beside the tunnel to the locker rooms prevents crowds gathering and blocking his exit'.]

13:00 Nadal leaves the Flinders Park installations at midday, pleased that his Real Madrid have won. Juan Carlos Ferrero shares his joy but not David Ferrer, who supports Barcelona. Prior to that he has met Guillermo Vilas, who despite being 55, still travels to the antipodes to compete in the tennis legends tournament. They joke together. The man in black is still sore about the Mallorcan's record 81 consecutive wins on clay.

13:3014:0014:3015:00 He spends the afternoon in his room. He is in the habit of having a dip in the swimming pool, which he also does when he trains at his friend Joan Suasi's place in Mallorca, Can Manxo. Rafa still has the images on his retina of the photos he took on his visit to an aquatic park in Dubai before last year's tournament there. "What a hotel that Abdul Al Arab is! But the hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, where I played an exhibition match with Gasquet after the Masters, was much bigger, 500 square metres. It was incredible!" he exclaims.

19:00 He has arranged another practice session, but he does not go to Flinders Park. He stays at the hotel which also has outdoor tennis courts. A bucket of icecubes, and serves and more serves. He knows it is an instrument in his game that could help him go far in the tournament. His uncle looks on and makes corrections.

                                21:00
